An original letter from James Watt has been sold at an auction in the United States. The note, from 1784, discusses opposition of traditional grain millers to Albion Mill in London – the first flour mill to use Watt’s improved steam engine. Some think the Mill could be the “first true factory”.

An auction site gives a preview of the letter. The selling price has not been disclosed; however, before the sale, one publication estimated the note to be valued between $18,000-$20,000

The auction took place at the University Archives in Westport, Connecticut, in the United States on September 26.
