The Greenock Telegraph is reporting that a campaign to reinstate the James Watt College name in Greenock is “gathering steam”.

The buildings are now part of West College Scotland.

James Watt College had been a fixture in the town for 100 years before the name disappeared as part of a merger with Clydebank and Reid Kerr Colleges.

One of the area’s former Provosts is reported by the paper, saying: “The name James Watt should never have been taken away. It is recognised all over the world.”
